Last updated 6 August 2026. This notice explains what Build Resilience (Pty) Ltd collects through this website, why, and what you can do about it. It's written in plain language on purpose, if anything here is unclear, email us and we'll explain it properly.

What we collect

When you create an account, buy a ticket, sign up for updates, or send us a message, we collect your name, email address, and, where you give it to us, a phone number. Account passwords are handled entirely by Firebase Authentication (Google); we never see or store your password in plain text. If you buy a ticket, we also keep a record of the tier you bought, the price paid, and whether your ticket was scanned at the door. If you write to us through the contact form, we keep whatever you tell us in that message, including your organisation if you give it.

Why we collect it

To create and manage your account, to process and confirm ticket purchases, to let you into the event and verify your ticket at the door, to reply to enquiries, and, if you've opted in, to send you updates about events, webinars, and content from our speaker network. We don't use your information for anything beyond running Build Resilience.

Who we share it with

A small number of service providers process information on our behalf: Firebase and Google Cloud (hosting, sign-in, and our database), PayFast (payment processing for paid tickets, they receive only what's needed to take payment), and Brevo (sending confirmation and update emails). We don't sell personal information, and we don't hand attendee lists to sponsors. The one exception is table sponsorships, where a small business owner's details are shared with the sponsoring company only after that owner has separately agreed to it.

Learners and school delegations

Where schools bring learners to the conference, that involves separate written permission from the school and signed guardian consent, handled directly with the school rather than through this website. We treat information about minors with extra care, in line with POPIA's rules on processing children's information.

Cookies and local storage

This site uses your browser's session storage to remember that you've already seen the sign-up popup once, so it doesn't nag you again on the same visit. That's it, there's no third-party advertising or tracking script running on this site.

How long we keep it, and your rights

We keep your information for as long as we need it to run the event and for reasonable record-keeping afterward. You can ask us at any time to tell you what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for marketing, every update email includes an unsubscribe link, and you're welcome to just email us directly. Write to sifiso@buildresilience.co.za for any of this.

Where we're still catching up

Build Resilience is a small, growing organisation, and we're honest that our formal POPIA documentation, including registering an Information Officer with the Information Regulator, is still being finalised. This notice reflects how we handle your information in the meantime. If you have a concern about how we're processing your data, please raise it with us directly rather than assuming it's been overlooked, we'd genuinely rather hear about it.
